We start with the research, inspiration and ideas you’ve found…
At your first consultation we encourage you to bring along ideas of designs, styles, fabrics or colours that you like. It doesn’t matter how vague these ideas are, we will look at these together and discuss all the details.
Creating a gown from scratch is a very individual, personal and creative experience, and from the beginning you are completely involved in the design and development of your dress. Every detail is tailored to your exact requirements.
Lesley sketches all the different options that are on the table, giving advice on the designs which will suit your figure, shape, your personality and the occasion.
At this stage there are numerous beautiful, luxurious, silk fabrics to choose from in hundreds of colours, laces, trimmings and embellishments – all truly stunning for the creation of your finest outfit.
We’ll take your measurements and we’ll plan the dates for all your future fittings, so please bring along your diary!
Next is the toile mock-up
We cut a pattern applying the bespoke measurements of your dress to make in calico, which is an unbleached cotton fabric.<
This gives you the opportunity to try the dress mock-up on and see the style. Adjustments and alterations are made at this stage to perfect the fit, shape and style on your body.
At this stage you might also want to consider the accessories to compliment your wedding dress. We’ll discuss the veil, jewellery and tiaras that we can make for you too, to complete your look.
The moment you’ve been waiting for – the dress fittings
Trying on your beautiful, handmade wedding dress in your chosen silk fabric, we have no doubt that it will be the most comfortable and exquisite dress you’ve owned. Completely yours and without compromise.
Lesley pins and makes minor adjustments to the dress to perfect it even more. You will need to bring the shoes you are planning on wearing as the hem is pinned accurately, allowing you to walk and move freely.
Some brides chose to change their weight in the build up to their special day and this is easily taken into account as your dress has already been made to your shape and measurements. An extra fitting may be required to give you the perfect look, but rest assured there is no limit to the number of fittings that are offered.
The big moment – the final dress fitting
Minor adjustments will be carried out to finalise the dress and this is usually a month or more before the wedding date.
Your dress is given a final fitting to ensure you have the perfect finished piece. Luxurious and sophisticated, it will be exactly as you dreamed and envisioned.
So there you have it! Each of the steps of the bespoke dressmaking process broken down so you know what to expect. We are passionate about helping women look and feel the best version of themselves on their wedding day. We have no doubt from the hundreds of brides that we’ve worked with, that we can help bring out the best version of you too.
