Meghan Markle’s eagerly anticipated wedding dress was the best kept secret of 2018 and it didn’t disappoint!
With its pure lines and an open bateau neckline framing the shoulders, Kensington Palace said that Meghan’s dress epitomised “a timeless minimal elegance” and that the designer (Clare Waight Keller) was chosen due to her “timeless and elegant aesthetic, impeccable tailoring, and relaxed demeanour”.

We loved the simplicity of the dress and the fabric that flowed beautifully. And coupled with the drama of the five-metre long veil, absolutely stunning. What did you think?
We have no doubt that the now Duchess of Sussex’s overall bridal look will inspire so many brides for their wedding dresses. We’re already starting to see a few trends emerge in the conversations we’re having with future brides. Here are our thoughts on the key trends that are already starting to emerge as a result of the ‘Meghan effect’:
White wedding dresses
We’ve begun to see a gradual increase in brides choosing pure white wedding dresses and Meghan Markle has certainly stamped her approval on this colour.

Lace trimmed veil
Choosing to have a wedding dress made in white gives you a huge amount of options as lace, silk and satins all come in white as well as regular ivory.
We have had brides choose ivory lace fitted over white satin as this gives a very subtle effect. It’s a perfect choice for those who only want a hint towards this new trend or for showing off the beauty of a lace pattern with the delicate contrast that’s achieved by using white and ivory together.
Simplicity in design / simple beautiful fabrics
Meghan chose a design that was elegant, classy, timeless and it was made with an exquisite silk fabric. The beauty of her dress was enhanced by the silk that just flowed, draped and moved with her perfectly. We frequently have requests from brides to wear dresses with either a high neckline or sleeves to cover their arms. Megan’s wedding dress achieved both of these aspects superbly and we expect to see many more requests for this timeless, elegant and simple look in the future (And of course you can rest assured that the silks we buy are of the highest quality).
Statement veils
This is your one chance to really go to town with a full length dreamy romantic veil! Although we don’t expect that many of our brides will request 5-metre long veils, we do predict that there will be an increase in requests for veils that make a statement. With us you have unlimited options with regards to the decorative edgings available too. A wide lace border frames the veil and adds definition to the edge to give greater impact and drama to the look. A narrow fine edging is dainty and less noticeable but some prefer this look.
These options give you the opportunity to really express your individuality and personality through your veil. And of course it will be completely unique to you, in your own style. We have hundreds of options available and are able to make any style, length or colour you require. We expect to see a lot more brides requesting veils to complement their dresses in the future.
So these are our top trends that we predict will influence future wedding dress designs!
